It’s hay fever season and I’ve got a hack for you. And yes — first you’ll hate me, but then you’ll love me!
So you have a BIG event coming up and you NEED your voice. A presentation, performance, whatever.
You wake up and You’ve. Lost. Your. Voice.
You’re gunky and gross. Maybe coughing up lovely phlegm.
Ugh. It’s definitely happened to me.
Well, my loves, I have a recipe for you. And before I give it to you, here’s what you’re going to say when you see it.
“ICK!!!! I would Never gargle with that!”
Mark my words.
But hear me out. Because I promise if that day comes, you may just be desperate enough to try this, and if you do, you may find yourself thanking me later. Don’t worry, I can wait 🙂
Ready? Here we go…
RECIPE
A mug of hot water (not boiling, but as hot as you can stand)
1-2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Mix this lovely concoction together, stir it up, and go to your bathroom sink. One swig at a time, gargle the whole thing, giving each sip time to really get back in the throat and pick up icky phlegm, and then spitting it out. Do it with the whole mug.
Ick I know, but also so good.
This mixture was given to my mother by her family doctor when she had the lead in the high school musical and had lost her voice. And guess what? She was able to sing the show!
I tried it when I was singing in Santa Fe and we had a big show and I’d lost my voice. And guess what? I was able to sing the show!
This stuff will not fix everything, but it can definitely help clear icky phlegm that can so badly mess up our voices.
Remember, if you have an extremely sore throat, stabbing pain, shingles, you’ve completely lost your voice, or you know it’s a Bad Idea to be speaking or singing, listen to your intuition and don’t sing or speak with undue pain. Know and honor thyself.
However, if you feel well enough to go on with the show, but your voice is on the phlegmy outs, give this a whirl and let me know how it goes!
Keep singing, wild souls, for yourselves and for the whole.
BlesSINGS!
